Roots & Wings Scholarship

Kyimolung Foundation was founded by people who grew up in remote villages and know firsthand what it means to live with limited access to healthcare, education, clean drinking water, sanitation and communication. Many of us later moved to cities and abroad in search of work. Those years taught us that lasting change must also begin within our own communities.

We believe education is one of the most powerful ways to strengthen a community. The Roots & Wings Scholarship supports deserving students from remote, underserved and economically disadvantaged communities who have the ability and determination to continue their education but face financial or geographical barriers, so that no one has to abandon their studies because of family circumstances or lack of resources.

What the Scholarship Covers

Depending on each student’s circumstances and the resources available, the scholarship can help with:

• School or college fees
• Books and learning materials
• Uniforms
• Transportation and accommodation
• Other reasonable education-related expenses

Our Goals

• Increase access to education for students from remote and underserved communities.
• Support students from low-income families who show financial need and commitment to their education.
• Reduce the barriers that force students to stop studying because of financial hardship or lack of educational resources.
• Encourage higher education, vocational training and skills development that create meaningful opportunities for the future.
• Develop responsible, skilled and community-minded young people.
• Keep educated youth connected to their communities, culture, traditions and heritage.
• Encourage scholarship recipients to share their knowledge, skills and experience with their communities.
• Create a culture of giving back, where today’s scholarship recipients become tomorrow’s mentors, volunteers, professionals and community leaders.

Who We Aim to Support

Priority may be given to students who:

• Come from remote or underserved communities
• Demonstrate genuine financial need
• Show commitment to their education and personal development
• Have limited access to educational opportunities or resources
• Demonstrate good character, responsibility and commitment to their community
• Show potential to use their education and skills for their family and community

The scholarship is not simply financial assistance. It is an investment in young people and in the future of their communities.

Roots & Wings

Roots represent our connection to our community, culture, heritage, values and identity. Wings represent the education, knowledge, skills, confidence and opportunities that let young people pursue their dreams and build a better future. We want to help young people go farther without forgetting where they came from.

Our Long-Term Goal

We hope to create a generation of educated and skilled young people who contribute to their families, communities and wider society. Some scholarship recipients will return to serve their communities; others will contribute through their professions, knowledge, resources, mentorship or volunteer service wherever they live. We do not want to simply provide scholarships. We want to build a cycle of education, opportunity, service and community development.
